Strider PREbike™ v's Various Wooden Balance Bikes
By Ryan McFarland
I spend a good bit of time each day answering questions about the Strider balance bike as it compares to other models or about certain features that it has.
I thought I'd try to hit some key points here that I seem to discuss regularly.
Better seat height adjustment
Strider balance bike offers 11" to 16" in any increment you want... you can even buy longer seat posts to raise the seat even higher since it is a standard BMX spec tubing. Wooden bikes that I've seen don't allow the seat to go as low, adjust in only a few set increments, and don't go as high. This limits the useable life of the bike.
Better saddle ergonomics
Strider PREbike™ offers a regular bicycle saddle with a molded plastic shell with a traditional saddle design of narrow nose with wider rear seating wings plus padding and vinyl cover all scaled to fit a small rider.
Wooden bikes that I've seen have basically a piece of curved plywood that is not very ergonomically engineered. I don't know of any adult that would want to ride on a similar plywood design on their bike.
The bicycle industry has spent millions of dollars on saddle design and development. Our saddle design most closely resembles what has become the norm for a bicycle saddle.
Better handlebar fit
Strider balance bike offers 3" of height adjustment in any increment you want. Wooden bikes that I've seen have a fixed height with no adjustment.
Strider balance bike handle bars also have rearward 'sweep' built into the bars for a better ergonomic fit... as do nearly ALL bicycle and motorcycle handlebars.
Again, these industries have invested millions of dollars on handlebar design and ergonomics. Our design most closely resembles what has become the norm for mountain bikes, BMX bikes, and dirt bikes/motorcycles.
The wooden bikes that I've seen are simply straight across, no sweep.
FOOTRESTS! This is huge
Only the U.S. Patent Pending Strider balance bike design has footrests positioned directly under the saddle, the natural location that allows for rider weight to be shifted to the rider's legs and even allows the rider to ride standing up, to wheelie, and to bunny-hop.
The wooden bikes are missing the footrest feature entirely, and therefore cannot even offer children the ability to learn these advanced riding skills. Why buy a bike that has only a fraction of the educational and performance possibilities for your child!
Footrests also dramatically reduce the weight/pressure on the groin area when compared to trying to hold your legs up in the air while gliding.
With the Strider balance bike, my son can be coasting down the sidewalk, relaxed, feet up on the footrests... if he comes to a bump or a curb, he stands up on the footrests and rolls right over it and absorbs the bump with his knees, just like I do when I stand up on the pedals on my bike.
I hope this is helpful. I really believe we offer the most feature-rich bike on the market and offer the best value running bike on the market.

Strider PREbike™ V Tricycle Video
With its durable steel frame and foam-filled, puncture-proof tyres, a Strider PREbike™ is capable of handling off-road ventures into grass, dirt, gravel, and even mud puddles! Kids and parents will no longer be limited to paved walkways for their outdoor adventures!
A curious child, without any adult instruction, will instinctively know to straddle his or her Strider Training Bike and immediately begin the learning process.
The bike's low seat height allows the child to plant both feet firmly on the ground, feeling safe and secure and providing both confidence and control. Coordination, motor skills, balance, and strength will all steadily improve as the child continues to experiment with the Strider Balance Bike.
In a few short weeks, even the youngest riders will learn to steer and balance their Strider PREbike™, lift it over obstacles, and move along varied terrain.
At this point, the Strider Balance Bike will become a 'running bike' as the youngster learns to take longer and longer strides for greater speed.
Due to the Strider PREbike™ puncture-proof, foam tyres and super light weight, it can go over any terrain-rocks, grass, logs, etc. - not just a paved bike path. The Strider Balance Bike can be ridden in the garden, on the bike path, in the woods, virtually anywhere you walk!
Once accomplished on the Strider PREbike™, your child will be confident on hills, forest trails, even doing small jumps.
Fun Family Fitness!
The Strider PREbike™ will turn family outings from drudgery to Total Family Fun! No longer will you have to wait for a dawdling toddler! With the Strider PREbike™ you are guaranteed a brisk walk and often a jog. In fact, your Strider Balance Bike rider may often ride circles around you.
There will be no more having to push around a pram or carry a tired, frustrated child back to the car! With the Strider PREbike™, everyone can attain fitness from family outings.
Lightweight and with no grease, cables, pedals, or chain, the Strider Balance Bike is a snap to throw in the back of the family car.
The Strider Balance Bike was designed to teach kids how to ride on two wheels, but, above all, it was designed to be FUN! That means maintenance has to be minimal, and every aspect of the design must complement the fun factor for the young operator.
Puncture-proof, foam tyres mean the Strider PREbike™ can go off-road with no fear of flats; and parents don't have to worry about fixing and inflating tyres before their rider "hits the road".
Adjustable seat and handlebars make the 2 year old as comfortable as the 4 year old, and its light weight (just 6.9lbs!), allows even the smallest rider the opportunity to ride.
The Strider PREbike™ is the only balance bike or training bike with frame integrated Launch Pad foot rests ergonomically located below the saddle. This is great for advanced riding skill development and provide a place for both feet while coasting along.
Sealed bearings keep the wheels rolling; and simple, lightweight plastic bushings protect the steering head tube. The optional foot brake teaches foot control skills and allows the more advanced rider to leave that tremendously important skid mark on the pavement or in the dirt.
The Strider Training Bike is more than just a teaching tool. Long after your child has learned to ride a bicycle (sometimes within just a few weeks) he or she will still turn to the Strider PREbike™ for sheer fun!
